“The hotel is very simple, but super affordable and located in the centre of Ipiales. Rooms are clean and comfortable, there is warm water which is pretty important, considering that the town is on 2950m and it really gets cold in the evening and during the night. The staff is very helpful, ready to help you out with any questions you have. Can't really say if they speak English as we communicated with them in Spanish. The taxi to the border with Ecuador costs 8000 pesos (that's what we paid and that's what they said it would normally cost so if you travel to the border, be sure not to overpay) and takes around 10min. Make sure to ask the driver to drop you off at the Colombian migration for the stamp if you are exiting the country, ours forgot and dropped us at the Ecuadorian. It's not a long walk, but it seems like it's a busy crossing so it's better to save some time.”
