“This the most important review of all the places we stayed and why we are definitely going to make this a place to go next time we are in Iceland. The day before we were supposed to show up here they emailed us with a warning to not come- that there was a snow storm forecast and that the risk was being stuck there for 4 days. We couldn't risk that and decided to cancel based on that note. It was a great level of service and greatly appreciated so thanks to Magnus for the warning. I gave top marks on everything else so people would read it. Great service!”
“Familiar atmosphere, kind staff, beautiful house (inside and outside), calm fjord scenery, lost place, less ring tourists”
“This place is so beautiful and charming. It is located in the middle of the fjord, and the view from our window was stunning. The bedroom was not too big, but it was cozy. I only saw one shower for men and one for women in our floor, but it was not a problem, since we were up really early and did not find any people. The guy who attended us in our check-in was very kind. The bar/restaurant was cute, with free coffee and tea for everyone. We had a nice dinner there, ok price for Iceland. The stay was a little bit expensive, but it was such a beautiful place I will go there again if I'm ever back in Iceland =)”
“Amazing location, very friendly staff, great view from room, delicious food. It's a long journey to get there, but it's worth it. It feels like you are at the end of the world.”
“Like arriving at Valhalla at the end of a perilous (yet beautiful) road along the Strandir coast.”
“this is an old building, it has it´s history and the surounding buildings, the setting of the building both indoors and out are astonishing”
“I hadn’t done a lot of research about the “town” of Djupavik prior to my arrival so was astonished at how tiny it was upon arrival. But the town and hotel were lovely. The scenery is spectacular. The dinners at the hotel were outstanding. The hotel host/owner was very friendly. A lovely hot springs pool is not far away. The drive in is breathtaking. And the tour of the herring plant was fascinating! I had only done it as there wasn’t much else to do (quite rainy the two days I was there), but thoroughly enjoyed it. And while the accommodations are by no means luxurious, they are perfectly comfortable and all that was needed. You don’t go to sit in your room. The shower is a little small, but the water pressure is excellent.”
“Wonderful, extremely cozy with welcoming dogs and very nice staff! Old building with lots of Charme. Tons of books and plays and puzzles..... Unfortunately could only stay for one night, but even that was great! Totally worth the long and sometimes crazy drive.”
“This little hotel is way off the beaten path and that's why we chose it. Getting into the northwest area of Iceland isn't easy, thankfully, or many people would be going. This family-run hotel is the former women's dormitory at a now defunct herring factory. The hosts, who have owned the place for over 30 years, are delightful, as is the staff. The small house we stayed in (rather than the hotel proper) felt like stepping into the past. We had little more than a ladder to access our sleeping quarters, but the beds were comfortable. We spent our indoor time in the comfy living area. The on-site restaurant served delicious fish, and there was always a pot of coffee to partake of at no charge! My spouse and son took the herring factory tour and loved it. Great place.”
