“This is an impressive and genuine Medieval castle set atop a hill above the town of Estremoz. It feels palatial with appropriate décor and furnishings. The bedroom was large and comfortable. There is a very good restaurant in the former town jail almost next door. Guests can climb the stone steps to the top of the castle tower for an excellent view of the town and the surrounding countryside. We stayed there on a Friday night and so were able to visit the huge and interesting market that takes place in the town on Saturday mornings. The breakfast was in the grand dining room and the food was plentiful and varied.”
“A most impressive pousada with vast public rooms and a rewarding place to stay. The garden and pool area are excellent with impressive views of the town. The breakfast is of a comparable standard with other pousadas, though with far fewer labels on the available jams etc.”

The grandeur of the building, the beautiful antiques, the hallways that lit up as you approached, all added to the elegance of the setting. Dining in the great hall was an event in itself. “Very nice stay. We were given a tiny room with a double bed. Asked at reception to be moved to another room and they immediately obliged by moving us to a bigger room with twin beds. Much better! Breakfast OK but not as good as at the other Pousados we stayed at.”
