She's been around the block and she's got her looks -- our kind of city. Greensboro is steeped in history, taking its name from Major General Nathaniel Greene, commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. It is also rich in place, sitting on the hilly Piedmont plateau, a mix of southern pine and eastern deciduous forest. The weather isn't bad, either. The average temperature in January is a balmy 40; in June, it's 74. Greensboro forms a triangle with High Point and Winston-Salem and considers itself an industrial center. Sears & Roebuck and AT&T are the largest employers; it is also a magnet for textile companies. Nice as home is, sometimes you just get the itch to hit the road. Greensboroans have plenty of options. North Carolina's beaches on the famous Outer Banks are a half day's drive to the east. To the west, the cool mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smoky Mountains National Park beckon.
