If the ghost of Ambrose Small really does haunt The Grand Theatre in London, it's probably because Southwestern Ontario offers him so much in the way of theatrics. After the old phantom sees a season's worth of plays at, The Grand, he can nip up to the nearby Stratford Festival for a chat with Banquo's ghost or some other Shakespearean spectre. Maybe, like many Londoners in the summer, he'll mosey on over to Grand Bend and take in some professional stock at, The Huron Country Playhouse. Certainly he has a lot of choice once he hits the road in the region, which is the province's heartland of live professional theatre. A score of towns and cities host one or more professional playhouses, from Canadian-wrought plays at the Blyth Festival to mirth and mischief in Fergus. Londoners, however, need not leave the city to be entertained. They can visit the Brunswick Hotel (known as The 'Wick) and The Embassy Concert Club to hear the best local and touring bands, or they can drop by the rink to watch the NHL hopefuls of London's Ontario Hockey League squad, the Knights. As Samuel Johnson once said: "When one is tired of London, one is tired of life." (You'd never know he was talking about some other London!)
