If you think of Reno as a smaller, less-glitsy version of Las Vegas, you've got the wrong idea about "The Biggest Little City in the World." Sure, Reno has casinos and bright lights and big-name entertainment, same as Las Vegas. But it has so much more. Like Lake Tahoe, less than an hour's drive away. Like San Francisco, about three hours away. Like Virginia City and Carson City and Yosemite National Park, all nearby. Reno and sister city Sparks are on the western edge of Nevada (Reno, in fact, is farther west than Los Angeles), and together are home to about 200,000 people. Many of them are employed in the gaming industry, which, despite Reno's other attractions, remains far and away the area's top industry. Three more things Reno has over Las Vegas - the Nevada State Fair (every August), the National Championship Air Races (September) and the weather. Reno has four distinct seasons, although both summer and winter are mild.
