Brandon is a little city with some surprisingly big-city services and accomplishments. There's less than 40,000 people here, but Brandon has its own university - despite two big schools down the road in Winnipeg. And then there's all the big sports events the city pulls in. Along with two World Youth Baseball Championships, Brandon has been host for the Canada Winter Games and in 1997, the Canada Summer Games. But what really gets Brandon residents excited is the winter sport of curling, and the city's Keystone Centre has been the site of national and world championship events. Next up, the Olympic Curling Trials. Brandon's known as the Wheat City, serving as the heart of the region's farming industry and every year it hosts the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair. It's also the major centre for a nearby military base, and close to Riding Mountain National Park.
