A prime example lives in the memory of Concord native Christa McAuliffe, the first civilian woman and teacher in space who died aboard the ill-fated Challenger. The city's Christa McAuliffe Planetarium, the nation's most technologically sophisticated, was established in her memory. Situated on the bluffs of the Merrimack River, Concord is a typically charming New England town.
