Les meilleurs hôtels à Lhasa

Called the City of Sun, Lhasa is the capital of southwest China's Tibet (Xizang) Autonomous Region. The city is situated 13,000 feet above sea level on the Qingzang Plateau ("the roof of the world"), within sight of the towering Himalayan Mountains. With a population of 310,000 people, Lhasa is also Tibet's political, cultural, and economic hub. Tibetans have traditionally been a nomadic people, raising barley, yak, and sheep on the spacious Qingzang grasslands. Tibet religion is dominated by Buddhist Lamaism, which is divided into two sects, the Yellow Hats and Red Hats. The Yellow Hats are led by the latest in a line of Dalai Lama's dating back to 1573. Lamaism is at odds with China's Communist government, resulting in Tibet's much noted political and religious unrest. The 17th century Potala Palace on Red Hill is among Lhasa's main tourist attractions. Others include 1,300 year old Jokhang Temple, the cliffside Drepung Monastery, and Mount Qomolangma -- aka Mount Everest. Horse racing is a popular pastime, while yak-butter tea and finger-meat are features of the local cuisine.
