Tourists also exclaim over Monterey's stunning 17 Mile Drive, cutting through the Del Monte Forest to display panoramic views of California's rocky coast. Coastal sites include the Point Lobos State Reserve and the Point Sur Lightstation, a national historical landmark in Big Sur where visitors gather to watch the semi-annual whale migrations between Baja, California and Alaska. Monterey also hosts the oldest jazz festival in the world, the Monterey Jazz Festival, where jazz greats like Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday have played. Thousands flock to Monterey Fairgrounds to rock out in the annual September festival.
