The dramatic abundance of nature in the Twin Falls area offers enough outdoor excitement to fill a Winnebago. The south central Idaho city of 28,000, just off I-84, is the gateway to the aptly named Magic Valley, an enchanting place of waterfalls, lava beds, rushing rivers and snowy slopes. Twin Falls is home to the College of Southern Idaho,renowned for its championship-winning volleyball team and for the Herrett Center for Arts and Sciences. Adventure travel is the big draw in this region. The Snake River slithers past, its roaring waters ripe for the rafting. Skiers swish the slopes at the nearby Pomerelle and Magic Mountain ski resorts, while gawkers flock southeast to view the startling City of Rocks, where granite columns 60 stories high thrust skyward. These unique rocks served as a parting point and message center for westward-bound pioneers; some of their missives can still be seen today. But the real star of this wonderful wilderness isShoshone Falls. The so-called "Niagara of the West," the 212-foot cascade is actually higher than Niagara Falls by a good 52 feet. A rainbow mists the waters as they plunge into the pool below, making for photo ops worthy of many a vacation album.
