“Spectacular location, great views from restaurant, terrace and rooms. Helpful staff, reasonable food, generous breakfast. Nice lounge for relaxing after walking all day. Most buses stop outside, but beware some go via the tunnel, then you have to walk 3km up a steep road from Serra de Agua. Ther is a 9.20 bus from outside the hotel to Encumeada where the walking trails are amazing. ”
“The location was good with a gorgeous view over the valley”
“It wasn’t easy to find the hotel , because there weren’t an exacte adress.”
“We have stayed four nights in the log cabin that was provided exactly according to our request in the booking.com. The room was nice with two large comfortable beds. The bathroom was very convenient and spacy, with high water pressure, though the exhaust ventilation was insufficient. The hotel staff was very polite and helpful. There are two excellent view spots just near the hotel, and very nice levada (about 0,5 hr) with the entrance on the right of the hotel. Stunning views! Info for no-car trackers. All the trails start from Encumeada, and you can easily get them by bus. The bus stop is in front of the hotel. The Rodoeste bus schedule is: To Encumeada - 9:20 (if missed, the next is in 11:15). From Encumeada to the hotel - 15:55 (the only bus). Take in account long levada tunnels (1 km and more), have a good flash-light and think of your head protection, if you are tall.”
“Amazing view, so friendly staff, good breakfast. It's up in the mountains, it's good to rent a car. There is no other restaurant or some shop in walking distance. So quite place.”
“Old school mountain hotel. Authentic decorations are quite well maintained, the hotel restaurant offers a quite fancy feeling. Secret tip, climb on a small hill just next to the hotel. There are few tables and spectacular view. We brought our own food and made an awesome picnic there, completely alone!”
“Amazing view. It's in-between the mountains, so you have an amazing view from your room, no matter the direction of your windows. The rooms are spacious and the nature around the hotel is very nice. Parking is a bit difficult. Friendly staff, good breakfast and restaurant.”
“Superb location in the middle of the mountains along the lovely old road. The only sounds you hear are the wind, crickets, birds and maybe a dog or 2. On a sunny day you can spend hours on the terrace at the bar or other more hidden away places, enjoying incredible vistas. Great breakfast with many fresh items with a splendid view over the mountains. Nice selection of food in the restaurant (try the tomato soup covered by fresh pastry!). Rooms are not luxury but great value for money, not new but well kept. I would definitely recommend this mountain hotel to people who like to stay in quiet and beautiful surroundings (and have the time and opportunity to get there).”
“Super view and if you are fortunate to get the polite welcoming helpful manager who speaks English it sets things up well for a very good stay. But when he changes duty beware!”
“The bus stops right in front of the hotel, in both directions, so we didn't need a car. From the hotel it is easy to go to the trailheads for the hikes - either by bus or within a moderate walk. Our log cabin room had the most beautiful view of the mountains. The other wonderful aspect of the hotel was the excellent dishes prepared by the chef. The chef cooked some of the most delicious meals we ate in Madeira - I particularly loved the Banana Curry! Also, Oscar was one of the most friendly, competent and helpful managers we have ever come across. He definitely made our stay in the mountains enjoyable. The waiter, Nelio, was also very friendly and attentive.”
