“Hotel was a quaint Victorian museum with warmly welcoming staff, bedroom was quiet for a main road situation and bed very comfortable. Room clean and restaurant provided top class meals. Car parking could be a problem during peak season.”

“A charming and welcoming hotel with a very friendly atmosphere. The room was comfortable and the facilities were excellent. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice including a vegetarian option which my partner thoroughly enjoyed. Also had a very enjoyable evening meal.”

“Fantastically quirky hotel without being in danger of becoming a ‘theme’ hotel. It was like walking into an Agatha Christie novel! Lots of displays of period artefacts in the room & all over the hotel, so recommend having a wander to all floors. Also, who could forget the fact the hotel has its own cave?!! It was fun to explore at midnight, just watch out for the ghosts... Nothing was too much trouble, all the staff were very friendly, the owner was friendly, helpful & keen to make our stay memorable. Plenty of top quality breakfast options & would recommend eating at the hotel at least once, as the dinner options were lovely & very reasonable too. Can’t recommend this hotel enough.”

“Owner welcoming and helpful. Good local knowledgeable recommending walking routes and places to stop for a drink or bite to eat. Excellent restaurant, wide choice (not buffet style) and good quality breakfast (did not have dinner but it looked and smelled very good) Good pubs and food within easy walking distance, The Fishpond (pub/restaurant), The White Lion (pub/restaurant) and Cherries (Cafe) all highly recommended”

“We spent a great weekend at this fantastic hotel. It is in an ideal location a few minutes walk from the railway station. The owners were very welcoming and helpful with suggestions about the local area. We even got to see the hotel’s very own cave decorated for Halloween- very spooky! Lovely big room overlooking the river . Matlock Bath was very busy while we were there due to the illuminations but the secondary glazing on the windows meant we weren’t bothered by noise from the traffic or passers-by. Very comfy bed and large bathroom. Excellent veggie breakfast was served by the very friendly staff. Would love to stay again soon.”
