“Arriving cold and tired after a long day of travel, the Royal Hotel provided a welcoming, efficient and comfortable stay at the very reasonable price of £69.00 for b and b. The staff make you feel at home and a valued customer. The single room was compact but efficient and comfortable. The bistro restaurant was buzzing and gave me a delicious locally sources meal at a reasonable price with attentive friendly staff. The night porter was helpful at 6.0am when I set off for the early ferry offering go to coffee as well as the packed breakfast I had ordered. Plus a nice fire already on in the main area - a lovely bonus on a cold dark morning. This hotel has updated itself in a clever, tasteful and attractive manner, none of which would be sufficient without the lovely staff.”

“Very friendly homely atmosphere. Our pet westie Charlie was allowed in our room. Easy access to car park at rear first floor of hotel. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Food excellent and good choice of menu. Café HS1 excellent value...and the Boatshed just that wee bit more upgrade and great value. Bar staff good sense of humour and waitresses very well trained in explaining the menu etc.”
