Les meilleurs hôtels à Naples

Under humpbacked Mt. Vesuvius, Naples embraces the blue arc of the Bay of Naples on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Neapolitans are fiercely proud of their home town, southern Italy’s largest city, for both its beauty and its faults: the impossible traffic and palm-lined waterfront, the crumbling grandeur and optimism. The humble torte that conquered the world -- the pizza -- was invented here, and in Naples it’s an art form, toasted to perfection in tiled ovens. Naples is also the ideal base for trips to the Isle of Capri, journeys up the slopes of still-steaming Vesuvius and excursions to nearby Pompeii and Herculaneum, the ancient Roman towns entombed by the volcano nearly 2,000 years ago.
Proudly unpretentious Napoli sits on the Bay of Naples, in the shadow of Mt. Vesuvius. It is Italy's second largest seaport and one of Europe's most densely populated cities, its narrow streets crowded with people dodging overhanging wash and speeding scooters. Naples suffered heavy damages during the Second World War, but its historic center still features many churches, the Palazzo Reale and the celebrated San Carlo Opera House (opened in 1737). Naples also hosts a noted aquarium. The National Archaeological Museum in Naples contains Greco-Roman artifacts and the priceless treasures discovered at nearby Pompeii, the thriving resort town for wealthy Romans that was buried under ash and mud during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The ruins provide an eerily preserved record of how the ancient Romans lived and played. They include impressive temples, a forum, ancient condomoniums, and one of the largest known Roman amphitheaters. (At one time they also included neatly preserved and rather surprised humans.)
